Aston Villa reject chance to re-sign Manchester City's Barry
Barry will not be making a return to Villa Park.
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has found himself unwanted at Eastlands this summer, but former club Aston Villa aren’t interested in bringing the 32-year-old back to Birmingham, according to talkSPORT.
Barry spent 12 years in the Villa first team after progressing from the club’s youth ranks, before being signed by a newly rich City in 2009 for £12m.
The Englishman was a stalwart in the side for the next three seasons, which included an FA Cup and first Premier League wins, but was out-of-favour last term and is now not in new manager Manuel Pellergini’s plans.
Currently at the Etihad Stadium there is Yaya Toure, Javi Garcia, Jack Rodwell and new signing Fernandinho that play in the midfielder’s position and are ahead of Barry in the pecking order.
With just shy of 500 Premier League matches under the England international’s belt, it was thought that Villa would be tempted into bringing their former captain back.
Yet boss Paul Lambert is not interested in acquiring someone of Barry’s age, preferring to take the side in a more youthful direction and the midfielder could find himself frozen out at City.
Still only in his early 30s Barry could certainly offer something to a top flight English side and with 53 England caps to the international’s name, the player has experience at the highest level.
Villa were poor last season and only narrowly avoided relegation towards the end of the campaign, however there is a feeling that after some shrewd work in the transfer market,Lambert’s men will significantly improve this time around.
